Richard J. Tappan


A native of the D.C. area, Mr. Tappan is an experienced and well regarded trusts and estates attorney with years of experience spanning dozens of cases. Mr. Tappan has additionally served as a member of the Probate Fiduciary Panel since 2007, and has acts as Guardian and Conservator for multiple wards in the District. Mr. Tappan also has many years experience in the areas of civil litigation, family law, probate, and trusts and estates law, and serves many D.C. charities by advocating for the homeless populations.

Mr. Tappan received from juris doctorate from the George Mason University School of Law in 2005. Prior to that, he received his Bachelors of Science in Business, a skill he employs on a daily basis at Tappan, Rastegar, Mendes.

Mr. Tappan has earned a reputation as a dogged advocate and consummate professional within the courts and with his wards. He is well known as an outspoken voice for the reform and improvement of the Probate system, a trait which has gained him the respect of colleagues, judges, and service providers. Mr. Tappan gives generously of his time on Officer on the Estates, Trusts, and Probate Steering Committee, and works tirelessly within the office on behalf of his wards and clients. 

When not in the office, Mr. Tappan enjoys hiking and spending time with his two amazing daughters.
